Darlington Citizens Advice Bureau runs an advice service which is Free, Impartial, Independent and Confidential. We see all kinds of people about all kinds of problems: Housing, Debt, Welfare Benefits, Employment, Consumer, Immigration – we can give advice on all of these and more.
Advice volunteers receive comprehensive training (based on a National Model) through a combination of taught sessions, self-directed learning packs and observation of client interviews. A Guidance Tutor, as well as other members of staff, supports this training. Volunteers can expect reach the stage of interviewing clients after about six months.
Darlington CAB already has a strong team of dedicated volunteers of many ages and backgrounds: students, parents/carers and retired people. The atmosphere in the bureau is generally both stimulating and relaxed, and advisers get a real sense of satisfaction from talking to people and helping them with advice that is – as it must be – comprehensive and accurate. We look forward to expanding our team, and developing the service we provide for the local community.
The bureau is currently open every weekday, (until 6.00 on Wednesdays), and on the first and third Saturday of every month. We want to make the Service more accessible by extending our evening and Saturday hours. We are therefore also looking for volunteers who are in full time employment or are otherwise unavailable during the working day.
